Campaign Reading

Combine the joy of reading with helping others.: We Give Books is a new digital initiative that enables anyone with access to the Internet to put books in the hands of children who don’t have them, simply by reading online.

This free website is truly powerful and impressive!  They offer a wide variety of reading selections that are suitable for all ages.  I am thrilled to combine the joy of reading with my students as they are inspired with the power of helping others!

*Here are a few ways that I implement this unique reading opportunity with my students:
  1. Create a classroom membership; allowing the students to participate by independently choosing books.
  2. Create individual student memberships; initiate a reading challenge for students. (Set a class goal, or modify goals for specific readers.)
  3. Create a teacher membership; promote teacher read-alouds by reading online.  (Display and read chosen book(s) on a classroom projector or Smart Board.)
For every book we read “We Give Books” donated brand-new books to children across the United States and around the world. I am excited to continue this reading adventure with as many students I can involve knowing that our reading efforts will provide books to those in need.

“The more you read, the more books we share with children who need them.” –A Pearson Foundation Initiative

“Reading with a child before they enter kindergarten can improve their chances of graduating from high school by as much as 30%” ~ Jumpstart (a national early education organization working toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed.)
