My goal this year as a “first-time” middle school basketball coach was to provide a safe environment where the girls could learn the basic fundamentals of basketball while having fun. In addition, I worked hard to install good sportsmanship, while instilling the values of hard work through dedication with the will to succeed. I set realistic goals with the girls; stressing team-work verse winning.
Our weekly practices allowed the girls to work together on both team and individual skills. I welcomed the opportunity for the girls to get to know me as we learned the importance of practice, patience and persistence with being part of a team.
Supporting academic excellence was extremely imperative for me as I worked with the girls to make strides both in the classroom and on the court. Consistently recognizing and encouraging academic leaders within my student athletes.
